Foresight has been chosen to take part in the national Community Organisers scheme, and is starting the hunt for community organisers in Grimsby. Community Organisers is a government funded scheme which aims to train 5,000 ‘community organisers’, individuals who will work in local communities around the country to bring people together, listen to ideas, build networks and support people to tackle the local issues which are important to them.

Foresight based in the East Marsh of Grimsby was selected by Locality, the organisation chosen by the government to deliver the scheme, which together will recruit and host the first community organisers in Grimsby. Foresight in partnership with East Marsh Involve will help the community organisers get off to a flying start as they have strong community knowledge and networks, a base where community organisers can work from and a range of practical support and management already in place.

Mike Horsefall Chair of Foresight said: “We’re really pleased that Grimsby is going to be one of the next areas for the Community Organisers scheme. There are so many people out there who are dedicated, motivated and really care about making their neighbourhood a better place to be. We’re very much looking forward to getting the recruitment process underway to identify Grimsby’s community talent. “We’re looking for 2 resourceful, outgoing people with the ability to empathise and encourage and who have a wide range of practical skills – from one-to-one listening, to organising public meetings.”

Jess Steele, who leads the Community Organisers programme at Locality said: “We selected Foresight in Grimsby as a host for Community Organisers because of the key role they play in the local community. They are a locally rooted, vibrant and respected organisation. We know they’ll select some fantastic community organisers.”

Foresight will choose two trainee community organisers from the area and will host them while they undergo their training with Locality’s national training partner Regenerate. The community organisers will then work in a neighbourhood chosen by Foresight in consultation with local partners, where they will put their training into practice and develop their skills.
